Behind every drop of water lies a fascinating and different story.
The water you bathed in last night may have started life as hail stones. Henry Vlll may have used those same water molecules in
his bath!
Most of the water you get from us comes from our 65 impounding reservoirs around Wales. But before it is pumped to your house it must be cleaned to meet very strict drinking water standards.
75% of the earth is covered with water.
97% of the earth’s water is salty sea water. Most of the remaining 3% of fresh water is trapped in ice caps, leaving less than 1% available to us.
1 Water is taken from rivers or reservoirs and is passed through a screen to remove debris such as leaves, twigs, plastic and fish.
2 Chemicals are added which make small particles cling together so that they can then be removed.
3 Water is filtered through sand and gravel to remove any remaining tiny particles.
4 Finally chlorine is added to kill any bacteria left in the water.
